A test of aversive agents on wolverines

Article Abstract:

Wolverine predation on sheep in central southern Norway in summer has been documented by researchers over the past 15 years, and government policy aims to sustain viable wolverine populations. However illegal killing threatens the sustainable management of the species. A study aimed to test nonlethal taste and olfactory agents aversive effects on wolverines. It found that some chemicals and oils could be added in small amounts to the diet to produce aversive reactions, and as such could be used as repellents on sheep.

Management strategies for the Wolverine in Scandinavia

Article Abstract:

The viability of Scandinavian Wolverine Gulogulo populations that allow for the inclusion of uncertainties in parameter estimates and stochastic effects on population dynamics is discussed. The existing rates of mortality of female wolverine make the northern population endangered whereas the southern population is classified as vulnerable.

Effects of altering sex ratio structure on the demography of an isolated moose population

Article Abstract:

Research on Norwegian moose populations indicates that changes to the male component of the sex-ratio composition delays mean parturition dates and results in reduced calf body mass during the winter after the birthing season. Implications for population survival and moose hunting policies are discussed.
