Activation of prokaryotic transcription through arbitrary protein-protein contacts

Article Abstract:

Transcription activation in prokaryote cells is achieved when a deoxyribonucleic-bound (DNA-bound) protein comes into contact with heterologous protein domain fused to ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymerase. The activation process, which appears to be based on arbitrary molecular interaction, is more effective when protein-to-protein interaction is strong. The transcription process is synergistic when two RNA polymerase components are activated by the DNA-bound activator molecule.

A mammalian protein with specific demethylase activity for mCpG DNA

Article Abstract:

DNA-methylation patterns are important in genome function regulation. The demethylating enzyme has now been identified. A methyl-CpG-binding domain is encoded by a mammalian complementary DNA. This has a demethylase activity changing methylated cytosine bases to cytosine, demethylating a plasmid when cDNA is translated into human embryonal kidney cells in vitro. The data provides evidence of the existence of demethylase and shows its main molecular characteristics.
