Adaptive developmental plasticity in snakes
Article Abstract:
Studies done on the relative contributions of genetics and environment to the jaw sizes of two tiger snake populations, one that consumes small prey on the mainland, and an island population that relies on larger prey and has a larger jaw size is reported. The results reveal that adaptation could be influenced both by genes encoding for head size and by developmental plasticity.

In a songbird, the black redstart, parents use acoustic cues to discriminate between their different fledglings
Article Abstract:
Response of birds to the acoustic signals of their young and the ability to differentiate between their fledglings through these acoustic cues is discussed. Reaction of Phoenicurus ochruros, parent black redstarts, a territorial songbird, to the calls of its young is presented.
