Age and site fidelity in female sparrowhawks
Article Abstract:
Nest site fidelity in female sparrowhawks is linked both to past breeding success and to age, with older females tending to stay in the same territory. Though sparrowhawks, like many other bird species, tend to move to a new site the season after a breeding failure rather than after a successful season, this was more apparent among younger birds than older sparrowhawks. Females changing territories tend to have more success after the move, while females staying at the same site tended to be generally successful. The change of territory and failure in breeding could be linked to poor food provisioning by a male, or to poor territory.

Azure-winged magpies avoid nest predation by breeding synchronously with Japanese lesser sparrowhawks
Article Abstract:
A new study investigates the relationship between the nesting time of azure-winged magpies and Japanese lesser sparrowhawks. It is believed that magpies nesting close to hawk nests breed at similar times to avoid nest predation.
