Agri-environment schemes do not effectively protect biodiversity in Dutch agricultural landscapes

Article Abstract:

Agri-environment techniques that have been shown to be effective experimentally are not necessarily effective in practice, according to research undertake in the Netherlands. It was found that management agreements did not protect the species diversity of the species groups studied. There is clearly an urgent need for a scientific assessment of agri-environment schemes.

Reconciling complexity with stability in naturally assembling food webs

Article Abstract:

Two series of below-ground food webs along natural productivity gradients in vegetation successions are reported order to describe stability in naturally assembling communities. Results show the build-up of food-web complexity in natural productivity gradients and also the feedback loops that govern the stability of whole webs.
