Airports vs. animals
Article Abstract:
Bird strikes caused 38 airline accidents and seven human fatalities between 1982 and 1989 in the US. Airport officials usually have to resort to shooting animals, which are attracted to the open spaces surrounding the runways. Aircraft noise is not a deterrent to the animals, and a solution is needed.
