Aldo Leopold, the land ethic, and ecosystem management
Article Abstract:
Aldo Leopold's contribution to the field of ecosystem management is heralded in his writings about 'land ethic.' The idea behind current ecosystem management is all about humans deriving both commodity and amenity values from public lands while at the same time preserving biodiversity. Leopold's writings expound on the idea that man must acknowledge his role as an integral part of an ecosystem, whose activities must be attuned to natural processes of utilization and restoration.
