Arrest of the cell cycle by the tumour-suppressor BRCA 1 requires te CDK-inhibitor p21(super waf1/CiPl)
Article Abstract:
Breast cancer research shows that nuclear protein BRCA1 inhibits cell-cycle progression before the S-phase and transactivates expression of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21(super WAF1/CIP1) in a p53-independent manner. Evidence indicates that BRCA1 stops the cell-cycle by inducing p21 activity. BRCA1 transfection inhibits deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis in human cancer cells. Cell cycle effects of tumour-derived BRCA1 mutants are listed.

The candidate tumour suppressor p33ING1 cooperates with p53 in cell growth control
Article Abstract:
ING1, the candidate tumour-suppressor gene was identified through the genetic suppressor element (GSE) methodology. It encodes p33ING1, a nuclear protein, which, if overexpressed, inhibits cell line growth. It is suggested it has an involvement in the negative control of cell proliferation and cellular ageing. The biological effects of ING1 and p53 are reported to be interrelated, requiring the activity of both genes.

Cdc6 cooperates with Sic1 and Hct1 to inactivate mitotic cyclin-dependent kinases
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the influence of Cdc6 on the inactivation of mitotic cyclin-dependent kinases in Saccharomyces cerevisiae during late mitosis. The influence of Sic1 is also discussed.
