Arthur T. Winfree, a pioneer in the study of spiral waves (in lichens, chemical reactions and fibrillation, has succumbed to brain cancer. Winfree had been on the faculty at the University of Chicago and the University of Arizona. His work included the books, "The Timing of Biological Clocks" and "When Time Breaks Down".

Seymour Benzer (1921-2007)

OBITUARY:Seymour Benzer was a well-known scientist who made major contributions to the fields of physics, molecular biology and behavioral genetics. One of his greatest achievements was the discovery of a counter-current apparatus for measuring photoaxis.

Yasutomi Nishizuka (1932-2004)

Yasutomi Nishizuka, a scientist was one of the main figures in the discovery of key protein activation pathways. In 1989, he was a co-winner of the Lasker award for the discovery of protein kinase C, for the identification of IP(sub 3) function.
