At grips with interactions

Article Abstract:

The T-cell antigen receptor (TCR) has had its binding quantified for the first time by two research teams. K. Matsui and colleagues determined TCR binding affinity by finding out how much soluble major histocompatibility complex molecule class II antigen with a relevant peptide was required to prevent binding of an anti-TCR Fab of known affinity for cell-borne TCR. S. Weber and colleagues prevented T-cell responses with soluble forms of TCR. Both methods yielded a low affinity on a par with the lowest known antibody reactions for binding.

Induction of T-cell anergy by altered T-cell receptor ligand on live antigen-presenting cells

Article Abstract:

Changing the T-cell receptor ligand by using a peptide analogue on live antigen-presenting cells results in T-cell anergy. The said analogue results in partial activation of Th1 and Th2 cells but does not result in the cloning or production of cytokine or inositol phosphate. This results in the inability of T-cells to respond to further stimulation by the immunogenic peptide.

Structure of a human gamma-delta T-cell antigen receptor

Article Abstract:

The 3.1 A resolution structure of a human gamma-delta T-cell antigen receptor from a T-cell clone that is phosphoantigen-reactive is presented. This work indicates a specific role for these receptors in immunity.
