Avoidance of cabins, roads, and power lines by reindeer during calving

Article Abstract:

Research on reindeer habitat selection in Norway shows that reindeer will avoid areas that have power-line or other anthropogenic structures, even if the areas contain preferred foraging areas and have little or no human traffic. This has significant implications for reindeer survival, as nearly 74% of all forage available fell within the avoided areas.

Movements and home range dynamics of cottontail rabbits in Mississippi

Article Abstract:

The article examines Mississippi cottontail rabbit behavior in home range habitat with regard to breeding season, gender, diel period and usage. It is posited that the amount of movement required for foraging is positively correlated to risk of predation, and that reducing required movement will reduce this risk.

Effects of infrastructure on migration and range use of wild reindeer

Article Abstract:

The distribution of reindeers in relation to travel barriers like roads and power lines is discussed using lichen biomass data as an indicator. One of the methods of protecting wild reindeers and their traditional migration routes between important seasonal ranges is to avoid building power lines.
