Behavioural adaptations of desert rodents (Hetreomyidae)
Article Abstract:
A summary of the ecological, physiological and behavioral literature on heteromyid desert rodents is presented. Heteromyid desert rodents forage for seeds and deposit them in hidden caches. They avoid predators by their ccoloration which blends with surrounding vegetation and moonlight. They also have various defenses when in open terrain. These are bipedal locomotion, sensitiive auditory and olfaction senses and frontal attack. Additional information on their social and mating behavior is presented.

The roles of phylogeny and sociality in the evolution of social play in muroid rodents
Article Abstract:
While social play commonly occurs in mammals, its frequency and complexity varies among species. A new study compares the complexity of social play in 13 species of muroid rodents. The study shows that play complexity is not linked to species differences in sociality and other explanations need to be explored to account for the seemingly distinctive distribution of play fighting.

Why do river otters scent-mark? An experimental test of several hypotheses
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to test several alternative hypotheses about the function of scent making by the North American river otter, Lontra Canadensis. No preference for the scent of unfamiliar males, compared with the scent of familiar males is observed and no preference for the scent of close kin is detected.
