Bush compromise raises doubts over stem-cell resilience

US government legislation allowing up to 60 different types of cell-lines to be used in the development of stem-cell research will put pressure on biomedical teams to produce data faster than was first anticipated.

Biologists fear cloning hype will undermine stem-cell research

Article Abstract:

Biologists are worried that the optimism created by the recent advances in cloning and granting of license for research in cloning might raise expectations for individualized cures for degenerative diseases, however it is reported that these prospects will not be fulfilled in the near future. Biologists feel that the attention paid towards cloning may result in weakening the stem-cell research.

Joys match fears as California agrees to stem-cell proposal

Article Abstract:

On 2 November 2004, a $3-billion programme that intends to make California a world centre for human embryonic stem-cell research was granted by voters. Proposition 71, was approved by a 18 percent margin, which would raise the money by issuing bonds and spend it on stem-cell research in the state over the next ten years.
