Bmi-1 is required for maintenance of adult self-renewing haematopoietic stem cells

Article Abstract:

Results show that the proto-oncogene Bmi-1 is required for the production of self-renewal of haematopoietic stem cells as shown by the alteration of the expression of stem cell associated genes, genes for cell survival, transcription factors, and proliferation modulating genes in bone marrow cells in Bmi-1 mutant mice.

Bmi-1 dependence distinguishes neural stem cell self-renewal from progenitor proliferation

Article Abstract:

Bmi-1 is required for the self-renewal of stem cells in the peripheral and central nervous systems but not for their survival or differentiation is demonstrated. Bmi-1dependence of stem cell self renewal distinguishes them from restricted neural progenitors proliferation in gut and forebrain.

Haematopoietic stem cells do not asymmetrically segregate chromosomes or retain BrdU

Article Abstract:

The hypotheses of the ability of stem cells to asymmetrically segregate chromosomes are tested by studying the working of the haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). The analysis reveals that HSCs do not go segregate chromosomes or retain 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine (BrdU).
