Catalysts live and up close
Article Abstract:
Catalysts are the workhorses of the chemical indsutry where more than 80% of all modern chemicals come into contact with at least once catalyst during their manufacture which can also be extremely complex. Rational design of catalysts offers the prospect of improved formulations for existing catalysts, and more effective and selective catalysts created from scratch.

Crystal structures of catalytic complexes of the oxidative DNA/RNA repair enzyme AlkB
Article Abstract:
Crystal structures of catalytic complexes of the oxidative DNA/RNA repair enzyme Escherichia coli AlkB at resolutions from 1.8 to 2.3 Angstrom are determined. Different crystal structures show open and closed states of a tunnel putatively gating O2 diffusion into the active site.
