Chinese privet and the feeding ecology of white-tailed deer: the role of an exotic plant

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to quantify the seasonal importance of privet browse and fruit in the food habits of white-tailed deer at Chickamauga Battlefield Park, GA, as well as to determine the winter availability and use of privet browse relative to other browse species. Results showed that privet browse in forests maintained a crude protein content of more than 12% year-round. It was suggested that the tendency of privet to form dense stands reduces foraging time for deer, thus contributing to the value of privet as a buffer food.

Energetic carrying capacity of actively and passively managed wetlands for migrating ducks in Ohio

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to estimate energetic carrying capacity (ECC) of actively and passively managed wetlands in Ohio, USA by using multistage sampling during autumn and spring. Results suggest that duck foraging resources in actively and passively managed wetlands habitats are abundant during autumn.
