Chinese scientists drawn back to Asia

Article Abstract:

The resurgence of Asian economies has impelled a reverse migration of overseas Chinese scientists back to Asia. The trend is to a large extent influenced by the Asian governments' practice of allocating massive funds for creating a strong research and development infrastructure. Science institutes are recruiting overseas academic staff and graduate students due to a lack of such expertise in Hong Kong and Singapore. The scaling back of research jobs in the US, the desire to contribute to China's progress and return to their families, are other factors dictating this trend.

'Venture fever' grips Asian economies

Article Abstract:

Asian scientists who have studied in the West will play a key role in the establishment of start-up ventures in Asia. Strong emphasis is being placed on start-up ventures by Asian governments as they seek to bring the region out of economic crisis. Japan is seeking to catch up with the West in the development of new industries, while the Singapore government has established a $1 billion fund to encourage 'technopreneurship.' Taiwan has become a leading player in Asia in the development of venture businesses.
