Clinton two strikes down

Article Abstract:

Bill Clinton's reelection hopes may be harmed by a politically motivated obstruction of his surgeon general nominee and the potential failure through mismanagement of his child immunization program. Dr Henry W. Foster's nomination has been indefinitely delayed by the Senate, orchestrated by Bob Dole, and Clinton must now choose another nominee more acceptable to the Senate or continue without a surgeon general. At the same time, a General Accounting Office audit of the Vaccines for Children program has declared it ineffective and mismanaged.

Clinton's dark horses

Article Abstract:

Presidential support is a necessity for getting appointed to and retaining the post of Surgeon-General in the US. Pres Bill Clinton called for the resignation of Dr. Joycelyn Elders whose public statements on sex education were alleged to be politically incorrect, terminating her term as the Surgeon-General. The President's backing for Elder's replacement Dr. Henry Foster also appears shaky as Foster's history on performing abortions is condemned by the anti-abortion lobby.
