Computing with cyclic AMP
Article Abstract:
The direct of visualization of cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels through ratiometric imaging allows the study of cAMP movement in living cells. A series of infrequent or short duration stimuli release modulatory substances that produce variations in cAMP levels. Each modulator enhances the cAMP levels in a different subset of nerve cells in the stomatogastric ganglion. Prolonged synaptic stimulation increases cAMP levels in the cell and causes cAMP-modulated transcriptional activities. The delay of cAMP signal decay allows intracellular cAMP levels to act as spatial and temporal integrator.

Plasticity in single neuron and circuit computations
Article Abstract:
Plasticity in the brain occurs at so many levels of organization and over so many timescales, theoretical and computational methods are required to understand how adaptive change to brain function and behaviour is brought about. Combined theoretical and experimental approaches for understanding neuronal and circuit dynamics, using examples from both small invertebrate and large vertebrate circuits.

Moving rhythms
Article Abstract:
Issues are presented concerning the studies made by neuroscientists into the control of the flexor and extensor muscles by the nervous system. The rhythmic control of muscles during movement is discussed.
