Article Abstract:

A number of people who had participated in a clinical trial for a drug called VGV-1 in the 1990s are infected with HIV by unhygienic commercial blood donation practices. The victims are claiming for compensation against Beijing's Ditan Hospital, which ran the trial and Viral Genetics of Azusa, California, the company that supplied the drug.

China tightens up

China is planning to restructure its drug regulation after a series of scandals that climaxed on 10 July 2007 with the execution of Zheng Xiaoyu, former chief of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA). The government believes that the changes will place the drug-approval system under public scrutiny and avoid misuse of power.

China bows to public over chemical plant
