Conservancy's fast track to habitat conservation

Article Abstract:

Rapid Ecological Assessment is the method developed by the Nature Conservancy for identifying places that have the highest biological values combined with the greatest threats. Some fifty rapid surveys have been conducted since 1991, including an assessment of Colombia's Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, covering biological hot spots, threats to biodiversity and ecosystems, synthesized into a map identifying critical areas for conservation.
