Raising the roof

Article Abstract:

Two research projects have confirmed that the roof plate, a small group of midline cells, produces signals that induce dorsal types of neurons. One project has shown that selective removal of the roof plate in mouse embryos leads to loss of the most dorsal interneurons. The other has identified the Lmx1a gene as being responsible for defective roof-plate formation and dorso-ventral patterning in the mouse mutant dreher. These studies suggest that dorsal specification in the neural tube is achieved in two independent and sequential events.

Segmental regulation of Hoxb-3 by kreisler

Article Abstract:

Transgenic research has identified the mouse and chick gene enhancers used in rhombomere-restricted expression. Genetic sequences for the binding sites of the kreisler protein Kmrl1, a Maf/b-Zip protein expressed in rhombomere-5 and rhombomere-6, have also been identified. The research indicates that the segmental regulation of the Hoxb-3 gene is controlled by Kmrl1.
