Conservation theory meets practice

Article Abstract:

It is possible to build alliances with local people to set aside large, pristine, people-free areas to maintain key ecological processes in fragile areas of the planet. The social groups in Bolivia and Peru are taking responsibility for the conservation suggesting that different stakeholders can work together to compromise for a sustainable future.

Sample size for the diagnosis of conservation units

Article Abstract:

Diagnosis of conservation units is usually based on the character states of a small sample of individuals and not the entire population. A method describing the effect of uncertainty in estimating population size while calculating critical sample size is given. The phylogenetic species concept requires a much larger sample size.
