Country doctor and speckled monster
Article Abstract:
A commemorative plaque was placed at the statue of Edward Jenner in Kensington Gardens, London, during the bicentennial celebrations for the invention of vaccination held in Apr. 1996. The plaque has been placed by the Friends of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, the Jenner Educational Trust, and the St George's Hospital Medical School. Jenner invented a vaccine against smallpox in 1796 that ultimately led to the world wide eradication of the disease. The statue was made by William Calder Marshall and originally placed at Trafalgar Square, but was removed to Kensington Gardens in 1862.

The survival of the cutest: who's responsible for the evolution of the teddy bear?
Article Abstract:
The preference for baby-featured teddy bears among four-, six- and eight-year-olds was investigated to determine the origin of the preference for nurturant sign stimuli. The results showed that both six- and eight-year-old children preferred baby-featured bears, in complete contrast to the group of four-year-old children. This indicates that the evolution of the teddy bear is not consumer driven but is part of a wider development of nurturant feelings towards young.
