Alan Trounson, who is considered the father of cryopreservation due to his in vitro fertilization method as a practical and repeatable method for the treatment of human infertility, is a professor and director of Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories in Melbourne. His aim is to see stem cells used for therapeutic purposes, for discovery of cell therapies, for new drugs and as vehicles for gene therapy.
