Detection probability and sources of variation in white-tailed deer spotlight surveys
Article Abstract:
A closed mark-recapture study is performed to determine the efficiency of spotlights for detecting white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) by operating thermal imagers and spotlights at the same time. The rate of detection differs between and within observers and surveyed transects, and it is not possible to correct road spotlight counts if detection probabilities are affected by many variables.
