Do black ducks and wood ducks habituate to aircraft disturbance?
Article Abstract:
A new study, prompted by a potential increase in military aircraft activity in some parts of the US, investigates whether wildlife, particularly wood ducks and black ducks, learn to ignore aircraft disturbance. Tests designed to determine if and how wood ducks and black ducks react to noise show several emerging patterns of behavioral responses. The amount of time when black ducks reacted to aircraft noise reduced uniformly during exposure. In contrast, habituation in wood ducks was not achieved. It is concluded that habituation is the possible explanation for low response rates to aircraft noise for black ducks, but more research is necessary to assess the effects on other waterfowl populations.

Accuracy tests for sonic telemetry studies in an estuarine environment
Article Abstract:
A directional sonic telemetry system and two positioning systems were attached to several sea turtles to track estuarine habitats in Core Sound, NC. The sonic telemetry system was less accurate than the Differential Global Positioning Systems. However, the system is ideal for studies which are financially-constrained and do not place great importance of location accuracy.

Survival of pelagic juvenile loggerhead turtles in the open ocean
Article Abstract:
Pop-up archival transmitting tags were deployed on loggerhead sea turtles to estimate the annual survival rates and difference in survival between the lightly hooked turtles and control turtles. Results concluded no difference in survival rates as well as estimated annual survival rate was 0.814.
