Do-it-yourself climate prediction

Article Abstract:

It is possible that home PCs could play a role in forecasting the climate of the 21st century. The range of predictions would be wide, but it is likely that only a small proportion of these perturbed models would reproduce recent climate warming and indicate no substantial change over the period to the mid-21st century. This would play a valuable role in balancing out the view that there is no need to be concerned about climate change. It would eventually be possible to feed in new parameterizations and higher-resolution models.

Slowing of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation at 25 (super 0) N

Article Abstract:

The Atlantic meridional overturning circulation carries warm upper waters into northern latitudes and returns cold deep waters southward across the Equator and a transatlantic section along latitude 25 (super 0) N is used as a baseline for estimating the overturning circulation and associated heat transport. Thus more of the northward Gulf stream flow was recirculating back southward in the thermocline within the subtopical gyre, and less was returning southward at depth.

Liability for climate change

Article Abstract:

A question addresses concerns whether it the time will ever come where it will be possible to sue someone for causing damage to the climate. To illustrate, if insuers boost premiums because of a heightened risk of flooding as a result of change in the climate, and there is a consequent fall in house prices, part of the loss can be attributed to past greenhuse-gas emissions.
