Do males rely on female hormones?
Article Abstract:
Research showing that transgenic male mice are infertile without the alpha oestrogen receptor form suggests that oestrogens may be vital for male fertility. Fluid resorption was found to be abnormal in the test mice, with the efferent ducts probably secreting fluid as opposed to resorbing it. Oestrogens and androgens are made by both males and females, with oestrogens possibly having a greater effect in the male than is generally recognized. The biological response of target tissues may be determined by the balance of the actions of oestrogens and androgens.

Another DDT connection
Article Abstract:
The use of the pesticide DDT is increasing the risk factors of problems with male reproductive organs such as significant fall in the average sperm counts in normal men, increase in testicular cancer, mal-descent of the testis and abnormal growth of the penis. In the body, the main metabolite of DDT, p,p'-DDE is an anti-androgen which is responsible for the adverse trends in the reproductive health since androgens play a crucial role in the development of the male reproductive tract.

When is a white list another blacklist?
Article Abstract:
The British government is planning a new Asylum and Immigration Bill in Nov 1995 that would create a list of countries from which asylum claims would not be accepted because the countries are considered stable. This is either a political move to attract the votes of xenophobes or this white list is actually an underhanded way of reducing the number of immigrants by white listing countries with known human rights violations to cut the application backlog.
