Effects of contact chemistry and host plant experience in the oviposition behavior of the eastern black swallowtail butterfly

Article Abstract:

Two experiments were carried out to test the nature of the black swallowtail's response to contact chemical host plant cues and the third to examine the role of the larval host plant in adult behavior. Observations reveal that the response to contact chemical cues was not only innate, but also unaltered by specific host plant experience.
