Effects of implanted radiotransmitters on captive mourning doves

Article Abstract:

Surgical techniques were developed and refined for implanting subcutaneous and intra-abdominal radiotransmitters in mourning doves and their physiological and pathological effects were studied. Necropsy findings showed that intra-abdominal implants showed little or no tissue response to the implants. Functioning transmitters began failing two weeks after implantation and 85% were nonfunctional after 10 weeks. Data suggested that subcutaneous implants with external antennas were a better alternative compared to intra-abdominal implants with external antennas.

Attitudes of Missouri small game hunters toward nontoxic-shot regulations

Article Abstract:

The attitude of small game hunters, especially mourning dove hunters, in Missouri, U.S.A., towards additional nontoxic-shot regulations is examined. The results have indicated that rural hunters, dove hunters, waterfowl hunters and hunters who use private lands are against new nontoxic-shot regulations.
