Engineering atomic and molecular nanostructures at surfaces

Article Abstract:

The fabrication methods of the microelectronics industry are refined to produce ever smaller devices, but would soon reach their fundamental limits. A promising alternative route to even smaller functional systems with nanometer dimensions is the autonomous ordering and assembly of atoms and molecules on atomically well-defined surfaces.

To compute or not to compute?

Article Abstract:

A simple quantum computer gives the correct answer even when a program is not run. The computer must be programmed and turned on even if it is not run, and so the value of counterfactual quantum computing is only in improving understanding of quantum mechanics and its interface with computation.

An astrophysical constraint

Article Abstract:

A quantum theory, which encompasses both general relativity and quantum mechanics is examined. The observations of radiation from the Crab nebula is described to place strong constraints for detecting the effects of quantum gravity.
