Environmental and genetic background of tiptoe-initiating behaviour in the dwarfspider Erigone atra

Article Abstract:

Ballooning is a widespread behavioural trait in invertebrates, which enhances passive aerial dispersal. The influence of common lineage and postnatal environmental conditions on latency to initiate preballooning tiptoe behavior in dwarfspider Erigone atra is investigated.

Mate guarding, competition and variation in size in male orb-web spiders, Metellina segmentata: a field experiment

Article Abstract:

The orb-web spider males were studied with emphasis on guarding males during the reproductive season. The smallest spiders were kept out of the web but the male guard was starved in this process of guarding.
