Environmental condition-dependent effects on a heritable, preferred male trait

Article Abstract:

The evolution of the female mating preferences model suggests that the female preferred male traits might be dependent on their condition as studied in field crickets, Gryllus integer with a preferred male trait as calling-bout duration. Under food deprivation condition males loose body mass and correspondingly shorten the duration of their calling-bouts that results the female to get cues about the male's body condition.

Difference in calling song of the three field crickets of the genus Teleogryllus: The role in premating isolation

Article Abstract:

The calling songs of three closely related cricket species are compared that inhibit the Japanese archipelago, Teleogryllus yezoemma, T. emma and T. taiwanemma. The results suggest that the calling song has an important role as a premating isolation mechanism.
