Escape response delays in wintering redshank, Tringa totanus, flocks: Perceptual limits and economic decisions
Article Abstract:
Variation in the escape response delays is explained with the help of two nonmutually exhaustive hypotheses. It is concluded that once the flock started to respond to the detectors, benefits gained through the dilution and confusion effects decreased rapidly, so that immediate escape is the optimal response.
