Extreme winds and waves in the aftermath of a Neoproterozoic glaciation

Article Abstract:

The sedimentary bedforms observed in cap carbonates contain information concerning wind-generated wave conditions in Neoproterozoic oceans during the periods of extreme climatic change. It has been shown that sediments deposited during the sea level rise contain remarkable structures that can be interpreted as giant wave ripples, which occur at homologous stratigraphic levels in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Namibia and Svalbard.

Volta-face in the Punjab

Article Abstract:

The rivers in Punjab flow into the Indus and deliver sediment into the Indus fan in the Arabian Sea, but in the past they flowed southeast and delivered sediment into the Ganges and the Bengal fan. This shift has occurred due to the growth of the salt range and flexing of the Indian tectonic plate in response to mountain building and erosion.

Sediment en route to oblivion

Article Abstract:

The impact of deep oceanic processes involving the sudden collapse of sea floor, generating large volumes of high-density sediment flows is presented. Such sediments flow could travel great distance and disturb the sediment input from river.
