Extremely-high-velocity H20 maser emission in the galaxy NGC4258
Article Abstract:
Powerful maser emissions have been observed from the active galaxy NGC4258 which also exhibit a high velocity relative the motion of the nucleus of the galaxy. One possible explanation of this is that the emissions are from masers orbiting a massive central black hole. Another is that they are from energetic bipolar mass outflows from the galactic nucleus. A third is that the phenomena are not Doppler in origin but the result of Raman scattering in a dense plasma.

A geometric distance to the galaxy NGC4258 from orbital motions in a nuclear gas disk
Article Abstract:
Accurate measurements of extragalactic distances is required for realistic descriptions of the age, geometry and fate of the Universe. A geometric distance to the galaxy NGC4258 is reported, taken from direct measurements of orbital motions in the gas disk around the nucleus of the galaxy. The distance, 7.2 plus or minus 0.3 Mpc is more precise than any extragalactic distance yet measured.

Water-maser emission from a planetary nebula with a magnetized torus
Article Abstract:
Water-maser emission was detected from the planetary nebula K3-35, within a magnetized torus of around 85 astronomical unit radius.
