Female control of mating sequences in the mountain scorpion Zabius fuscus: Males do not use coercion as a response to unreceptive females

Article Abstract:

The main characteristics of female sexual receptivity of the mountain scorpion Zabius fuscus are analyzed based on the premating behavioral patterns of virgin and inseminated females from natural or artificially interrupted matings. Scorpion males appeared to use luring rather than coercive behaviors when facing resisting females and the morphologically based data indicate that postmating sexual receptivity in females is not affected by other male characteristics such as body or spermatophore size.

Female colour and male choice in sockeye salmon: implications for the phenotypic convergence of anadromous and nonanadromous morphs

Article Abstract:

Experiments were conducted to examine spectral characteristics necessary for male mate choice of abstract female models in sockeye salmon, Oncorhynchus nerka. The results suggest that a sensory bias can account for the re-emergence of red in kokanee, after its loss during the initial development of a freshwater morph.

Male combat favours female-biased sex ratios under environmental sex determination

Article Abstract:

The Fisher prediction, says that sex ratios should be even when the cost of producing each sex is equal. It is found that unbiased sex ratios are predicted to evolve because frequency-dependent selection favours the rarer sex.
