Food acquisition by common cuckoo chicks in rufous bush robin nests and the advantage of eviction behaviour
Article Abstract:
The common cuckoo, Cuculus canorus, is a brood parasite that monopolizes parental care of its host species and in natural parasitized and nonparasitized nests the feeding rate for cuckoo chicks did not differ from that of a single host chick of the same age. The results suggest that the cuckoo chicks could not outcompete host chicks, at least when parasitizing the host species and thus, their eviction behaviour is beneficial.

Male sexual attractiveness and parental effort in blue tits: A test of the differential allocation hypothesis
Article Abstract:
A different allocation hypothesis was tested by increasing and decreasing male blue tit, sexual attractiveness and subsequent measures of male and female parental effort during the chick-feeding period. The findings suggested that male phenotypic appearance influences female decisions about level of parental effort at the chick-feeding stage.
