Form and function instructions

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to demonstrate that maintaining the conservation pattern in a protein family, along with a small subset of coevolving residues, enables the generation of low-homology sequences that fold and function. The study indicates that the number of crucial interactions in a protein may be smaller than previously thought, a boon for those who want to design novel proteins from their inception to fulfill a specific function.

Context-dependent contributions of backbone hydrogen bonding to beta-sheet folding energetics

Article Abstract:

The contribution of backbone H-bonds to the folding kinetics and thermodynamics of the PIN WW domain, a small beta-sheet protein, is assessed by individually replacing its backbone amides with esters. Results reveal an unusually elaborate picture of the folding of a beta-sheet protein.

Folding at the speed limit

Article Abstract:

Rapidly folding mutant of the five-helix bundle protein lamda6-85 is studied to find molecular timescale and speed limit of folding. Molecular time scale represents the natural pre-factor for transition state models of folding.
