Four factors modifying the effect of competition on carnivore population dynamics as illustrated by African wild dogs

Article Abstract:

The four complexities, which can modify the effects of competition on the population dynamics of carnivores, namely habitat fragmentation, counterintuitive effects of prey density, predator-prey-size ratios and habitat type is presented using data from the African wild dogs. Competitions effects can vary dramatically even for a single pair of competitors and it is concluded that realistic assessments of extinction risk or the quality of reintroduction sites might have to be highly tailored or case-specific.

Using logistic regression to analyze the sensitivity of PVA models: a comparison of methods based on African wild dog models

Article Abstract:

Logistic regression was used as a method of sensitivity analysis for a stochastic population viability analysis model of African wild dogs and the results were compared with conventional sensitivity analyses of stochastic and deterministic models. The pros and cons of using logistic regression were evaluated to study the sensitivity of stochastic population viability models.

Why economics mattes for endangered species protection
