France changes guard? The Mitterrand government seems to be nearing its end, but the president himself may soldier on
Article Abstract:
French President M. Francois Mitterrand's Socialist government will probably lose the election to be held in Mar 1993. Although Mitterrand can finish out his second eight-year term even if his party loses, he will have little real power. Increasing government funding for research is the Mitterrand government's most signal accomplishment. However, the government's disregard for farmers and narrow view of the EC probably explains its likely defeat.

Human gene therapy
Article Abstract:
Progress in developing effective clinical protocols for the use of gene therapy as a treatment for disease has been slow. Efforts at gene therapy have initially been directed towards engineering viruses to be used as vectors to transport therapeutic genes into patients. The categories of the various virus vectors are considered, including those based on RNA and DNA viruses.
