Frederick Blackmar Mumford, 1868-1946: a brief biography
Article Abstract:
Frederick Blackmar Mumford was an outstanding animal scientist, but he is best remembered for his administrative achievements as Dean of the University of Missouri College of Agriculture from 1909 to 1938. That the College of agriculture is considered one of the ten best agricultural colleges in the US is due to the few select persons who were selected by Mumford and given the freedom and encouragement to build the college programs. The College also gained recognition because Mumford vigorously promoted the application of research into agriculture in Missouri. Mumford died from injuries suffered in a car crash in Oct 14, 1946.
