Frog loggers: looking for love in all the wet places

Article Abstract:

The US Geological Survey is attempting to document the nationwide decline in frog and toad populations, and volunteers have spent many hours since 1994 gathering sufficient baseline data. Causes for decline include high ultraviolet levels filtering through depleted ozone, introduced aquatic predators, higher traffic volumes, and water pollution.

A sad centennial

Article Abstract:

The extinction of the passenger pigeon, or Ectopistes migratorius, is observed. Chronology includes the Mar 24, 1900 shooting of the last wild specimen known to the death of the final specimen in captivity 14 years later.
