Froghopper insects leap to new heights
Article Abstract:
The author has investigated the basic body design for jumping enabling froghopper insects to increase their locomotion speed. Results demonstrate that froghoppers have outperformed other insects, that they have exceeded the hight jumped by the flee relative to the body length accelerating their much heavier bodies four times faster.

Scent secrets of insects
Article Abstract:
A study reveals that the perception of carbon dioxide brings out insects with sensory data on their environment, and informs numerous insect behaviors. A report about the identification of two receptor proteins that are required together for C[O.sub.2] perception in the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster is presented.

Insects breathe discontinuously to avoid oxygen toxicity
Article Abstract:
Several insects have highly discontinuous patterns of gas exchange, including long periods when the spiracles are fully closed in spite of a high metabolic rate. Various reasons for such a respiratory pattern in the insects are discussed.
