Functional impact of syntaxin on gating of N-type and Q-type calcium channels

Article Abstract:

A study has been conducted to examine the role of syntaxin in the communication of N-type and Q-type voltage-gated calcium channels in the presynaptic terminal. Xenopus oocytes expressing syntaxin were observed to reduce the availability of the channels because syntaxin opposed calcium entry to calcium channels and neurotransmitter-containing vesicles in the presynaptic terminal. The results indicate that syntaxin promotes channel inactivation rather than expression in cells.

The role of neuronal identity in synaptic competition

Article Abstract:

The fate of axonal branches is strictly related to the identity of the axons with which they compete is identified. Results revealed that competition between two neurons depends on globally distributed resource; neurons with larger arborizations are at a competitive disadvantage when confronting neurons with smaller arborizations.
