Endangered animal species will benefit from the planned development of the world's first dedicated mammalian mitochrondrial DNA database. The project is a joint venture by Amersham Pharmacia Biotech and the Zoological Society of San Diego.

Unfavourable economics put postdocs across Europe under strain

Issues are presented concerning the effect of unfavourable economic conditions on the fellowships which are taken up by postdocs in Europe. The Marie Curie fellowships scheme is discussed.
