German science body complains of excessive regulation of research

Article Abstract:

The German Science Council is protesting Germany's laws governing science and the overzealous application of those laws by officials because of concerns about research efficiency and international competitiveness. Especially stringent are laws governing laboratory animals, data protection, genetic technologies and embryo research. Also problematic is the application of a single standard to both industrial and research laboratories when applying for operating licenses.
