Grants fall victim to NIH success

Article Abstract:

The grants from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) were the major topic for discussion during the 2006 Society for Neuroscience meeting. The NIH received 46,000 grant applications in 2006, the number of which is forecast to reach 49,000 in 2007, and the average grant sizes have grown by 40%, though the Congress has stopped increasing the NIH budget.

Young biologists rejected as NIH budget squeezes training grants

The issues related to the payment of stipend to the trainees at National Institutes of Health (NIH), are discussed. The NIH training grants support nearly 18,000 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
