Hydrous olivine unable to account for conductivity anomaly at the top of the asthenosphere

Article Abstract:

The effect of water on electrical conductivity and its anisotropy for hydrogen-doped and undoped olivine is examined. The extrapolation of the experimental results have indicated that conductivity of hydrous olivine at the top of the asthenosphere should be nearly isotropic, but the hydration of olivine cannot account for the geophysical observations, which instead might be explained by the presence of partial melt elongated in the direction of plate motion.

Dry mantle transition zone inferred from the conductivity of wadsleyite and ringwoodite

Article Abstract:

Several experiments are conducted to measure the electrical conductivities of wadsleyite and ringwoodite, which then helps in estimating the water content of the Earth's mantle transition zone.
